THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM Central Committee has assessed that out of the five states where assembly elections are scheduled, Kerala is the only state where the party has good hopes, and that timely action should be taken accordingly.

'There is a political atmosphere for victory in Kerala. The state leadership can decide the candidates based on the current situation. The political and organisational report from Bengal is unclear about how many seats the party can win there. The situation is similar in Tamil Nadu. The party is not expected to make significant gains in the elections in Puducherry and Assam.'

The political report presented to the Central Committee yesterday clarified that it is not only the party's need to continue ruling Kerala by winning a good majority, but also the need for the survival of the Left in the country. The report was presented by CPM General Secretary M.A. Baby.

Although the organisational system in Kerala is strong, the nine years of Left rule were not reflected in the local body election results. The committee assessed that the government and the party system had failed to bring development achievements to the people. Necessary corrections should be made in the organisational system and at the administration level. Otherwise, complete victory in the assembly elections will not be possible, says the organisational report of the Central Committee on Kerala.

The report also states that tireless efforts should be made to complete the government's popular schemes within the next three months without controversy. Welfare pension arrears should not be incurred. Leaders should not make statements that create rifts with caste and religious organisations. The party's state leadership should be vigilant in this regard. The central committee will conclude today after detailed discussions.
