Popular film director Alleppey Ashraf opened up about the late discord within the Malayalam film stars' organisation AMMA. The film director opened up about the problems that sparked following the AMMA family reunion and the verbal spats between the office bearers. Alleppey Ashraf shared these matters through his YouTube channel.
“Malayalam cinema used to operate without regard to politics or religion. But now some people are making shameless attempts to bring politics and communalism. The president of the star organization AMMA proposed a plan to hold a family gathering. The president said that the temple run by a BJP committee had agreed to give one crore rupees to the organisation as sponsorship.
Last year's family reunion was sponsored by companies, including MyG. One and a half crore rupees were received that day as sponsorship. The money after expenses was invested in the Sanjeevani scheme related to the health insurance of the members. Mohanlal was the president at that time.
Finding fault with the new scheme, board members Joy Mathew and Ansiba Hasan came forward to express their opposition. A vote of members was then initiated. Most of them expressed their opposition. No decision has been reached yet regarding this. However, some members have approached Mohanlal and Mammootty to resolve this dilemma. Mammootty gave the green signal to accept the donations from the temple, while Mohanlal said he will hold talks with MyG again.
I learned about these things from AMMA leadership. On the day of the verdict in the actress assault case, AMMA organised a celebration in the name of IFFK. Actress Mallika Sukumaran was one of the few actors who openly condemned it.
There was yet another tussle between two women occupying top leadership within AMMA. To know more about it, one just needs to dial the Tripunithura Hill Palace Women's Police Station. One among them had to appear at the police station and give a public apology over the issue.”
