
ALUVA: A large stash of 33 kg of ganja was found abandoned on the Vivek Express, which shuttles between Dibrugarh in Assam and Kanyakumari. Excise and RPF conducted the joint inspection.
When the train reached Aluva at around 4 pm on Tuesday, the Excise and RPF team on the platform noticed the bags in a suspicious condition near the toilet in the general coach at the rear end of the train. The officials boarded the train and checked, only to find the abandoned ganja. Despite the efforts, the owner could not be found. The bag was taken out before the train left the station.
On the instructions of RPF Divisional Security Commissioner Muhammad Hanifa, a team comprising Aluva RPF Inspector Venu, Sub-Inspector K.S. Manikandan, Crime Intelligence Inspector A.J. Jipin, Crime Intelligence ASI Sijo Xavier, Constables G. Vipin, Eldhose, Aji, and Excise Range Inspector Jomon George recovered the cannabis. Crime Intelligence Inspector A.J. Jipin said that the rise in cannabis being smuggled to the state is showing an increase due to Shivaratri and the approaching assembly elections. On the 13th, 10 kg of cannabis was found abandoned in a joint inspection conducted by Excise and RPF at Aluva Railway Station.
Ganja worth Rs 17 lakh in the market was seized in Aluva. It is believed this was brought for retail sale among migrant workers. Five kilos of ganja were seized at Thrissur railway station on Tuesday.
