THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Although there has been no official announcement, candidates from all three fronts are active in the campaigning in the Vattiyoorkavu constituency. The Vattiyoorkavu constituency comprises 24 wards in the corporation.
Wall writings favouring K. Muraleedharan have already started in the constituency even before the official announcement. Work is currently underway to activate the Congress ward committees. Muraleedharan himself is calling the ward committees. The activities as a UDF will be intensified only after the official candidate announcement. Muraleedharan commands a lot of popularity in the constituency, which he had won earlier.
Moreover, Muraleedharan had assumed full responsibility for the UDF's local body elections in the corporation. His leadership was crucial in increasing the UDF's membership from 10 seats in the last council to 20.
Sitting MLA VK Prashanth will continue as the LDF candidate. Although there has been no official announcement, all the left workers are confident of yet another win. Activities, including house visits, have started. Wall writing has started all over the constituency for Prashanth. Flex boards have also been installed detailing the developments implemented in the constituency. Outstanding performance as an MLA for eight years adds to Prasanth’s advantage.
Former DGP and Corporation Councillor R. Sreelekha will likely be the BJP candidate. Sreelekha kicked off the BJP’s campaign work in the constituency yesterday. She has also started meeting voters in person. They are also holding meetings with civic leaders and office bearers of major organisations in the constituency.
