KANNUR: T.K. Govindan, who left the party in protest against the nomination of P.K. Shyamala in Taliparamba, levelled harsh criticism against CPM state secretary M.V. Govindan. TK. Govindan questioned the motive behind MV Govindan providing his wife with a safe seat after he himself completed three terms as MLA. TK Govindan also clarified that he had told M.V. Govindan about this directly.

T K Govindan:

“The party policy states that a person should not contest elections after two successful terms. However, Govindan completed three terms and used shrewd politics to hand over the seat to his wife for the next term. Govindan wanted to contest, but the duties of the CPM state secretary are hindering his plans. So the easy way to power is by fielding his wife in the constituency.

There was severe criticism in the district committee regarding Taliparamba's candidacy. When we informed the constituency committee, apart from three, all others supported me. Such a criticism is unprecedented. We kept hope that the leadership would consider our criticism and change the candidate in Taliparamba. It is dangerous because we are at risk of losing the red bastion. I can no longer remain with the party that doesn’t consider the issues put forward by a common member.”
