Don’t cremate Maoists' bodies till further orders: HC

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court ordered not to cremate he bodies of the Maoists killed in an encounter with police at Manjikandy in Palakkad till further orders. The relatives of the dead approached the high court against the order of Palakkad sessions court to cremate the bodies.

The relatives of Karthy and Manivasakam approached the Palakkad sessions court against the disposal of bodies. Though a stay was granted for four days, the court granted permission to cremate the bodies after accepting the argument of the police. They approached the high court against this.

The high court directed the government to make arrangements for keeping the bodies without decomposing. The court also noted that the smokescreen associated with the death should be removed.

The relatives approached the court against the cremation after it was alleged that it was a fake encounter. Political parties including the CPI came forward with the same allegation. Their demand was to entrust a special investigating team and should conduct a probe after registering a special FIR.
