Sabarimala verdict: Strict action if provoked, security tightened

sabarimala

NEW DELHI: A bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi will pronounce the verdict on the pleas seeking to re-examine the verdict permitting women of all ages to enter Sabarimala. Security has been tightened in the state ahead of the verdict.

The police had directed to take strong action if attacks are planned in the cover of Sabarimala. The police has alerted that action will be taken against those who misinterpret the judgment and propagate false propaganda. The same procedure was followed in the Ayodhya verdict also.

Nearly 56 review pleas were filed in the apex court related to the verdict permitting women of all ages to enter the temple. A total of 65 pleas including writ and government pleas are before the court. A constitution bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justices A M Khanwilkar, Rohinton Nariman, D Y Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra will pronounce the verdict.

On September 28 in 2018, a bench led by the then chief justice Dipak Mishra ordered entry of women in Sabarimala. Ranjan Gogoi was not in the bench permitting women entry. Khanwilkar, Rohinton Nariman and D Y Chandrachud supported women entry along with Dipak Mishra. Indu Malhotra opposed women entry then.
