Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena set to go saffron

MUMBAI: In a major political change shift, Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) party will change its flag and most likely to lean more towards Hindutva ideology. Senior leader of MNS Sandeep Deshpande said that nobody has copyright over the saffron and whole Maharashtra is saffron.

Interestingly, Thursday is also the birth anniversary of late Balasaheb Thackeray. On the same day, Uddhav Thackeray will also organise a felicitation function for fulfilling Balasaheb Thackeray's promise. MNS was founded in 2006 after Raj Thackeray split from Shiv Sena. Lately, the party was not performing well enough in elections. Now, with Shiv Sena holding the secular flag, MNS thought it is the right time to hold a saffron flag. Recently, Raj Thackeray had also met BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis.

Mumbai city is filled with banners of the special session of MNS wherein Raj Thackeray is going to make this big announcement. The move has also been welcomed by BJP leaders.

Sandeep Deshpande said, "Saffron is not the property of anyone. Whole Maharashtra is saffron. We are saffron. On Thursday you will come to know about our plans. But one thing is sure this will bring new energy to Maharashtra. There will be new twist and options in Maharashtra politics."

"Speaking and doing are two different things. After the death of Shri Balasaheb Thackeray ji when has Sena held the saffron flag? Never. Be it Ganesh Utsav or Dahi Handi, MNS Raj Thackeray has stayed with them and will always be we them. Banners posters have been put up everywhere. Road outside Sena Bhavan is people's road," he said.

On alliance with BJP, he said, "It is good they are welcoming our move but right now there is no discussion of going with BJP, in future let's see where things go."
