karuna

KOCHI: Aashiq Abu and Bijibal, the organizers of the controversial 'Karuna' concert program, came up with a response in a live video on Facebook. In the video, they said only 908 tickets were sold as part of the program and only Rs 6,02,193 was raised.

Apart from Aashiq Abu and Bijibal, singers Sitara Krishnakumar, scriptwriter Syam Pushkaran, singer and music director Shahabaz Aman and director Madhu C. Narayan was also part of the live video session.

The organizers added they had said the funds raised through the show would be donated to the CM's Distress Relief Fund and the stadium was allotted for the program due to this. Out of the 4000 people who came for the program, 3000 watched the program for free, Bijibal said.

A police probe was declared on a petition that the program was conducted with a motive to collect money in the name of fundraising towards distress relief, thereby committing financial fraud. The petition against Kochi Music Foundation was lodged by Yuva Morcha leader Sandeep Warrier.
