THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kannur SP Yatish Chandra was seen making three men do squats as a punishment for coming out during the lockdown. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Azhikkal in Kannur after a number of locals were found gathering on the street. Though some of the men managed to flee upon seeing the police, three men were caught and made to do squats in public. As the video showing the incident has gone viral on social media, several people have come up criticising the officer.

The SP was also seen making four others do squats at another street in Azhikkal. It must be noted that the police have been conducting strict checking in the district following the implementation of lockdown.

Hours after the incident turned controversial, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the officer's action and said that such actions will only ruin the reputation of the police.
