KOTTAYAM: Frustrated over not getting liquor, a man attempted suicide by jumping off a building. He has been identified as Shashi, a native of Mattom. He attempted suicide by jumping from the third flood of PMJ Complex in Changanassery. Security employees on duty informed the police and they took him first to the General Hospital but later shifted to the medical college as his condition was stated to be serious.

Meantime, a man frustrated over the closing of liquor shops developed uneasiness and died of heart attack in Kollam. Police said he was an alcoholic and had been violent for two days. Though he was rushed to the district hospital Sunday early morning, his life could not be saved. Hospital authorities said that he died of cardiac arrest. BEVCO outlets were closed from last Tuesday. Two in Kollam committed suicide the other day. A person in Kayamkulam died yesterday after having shaving cream. Two suicide cases were reported from Kochi and Thrissur yesterday.

With the closure of liquor shops, the chief minister had the other day asserted that tipplers would be provided liquor as per the directive of doctors. He said that he would give instructions to the excise department. He said that he has noticed that tipplers are facing problems over the closure of shops. The new decision was taken by the government as many committed suicide following the closure of liquor shops.
