KOLLAM: The crime branch will question Sooraj, husband of the woman who died of snake bite in Anchal. A decision has been taken to question Sooraj, husband of Uthara (25) of Anchal Eram Vellasseri House who died of snake bite, after registering the statement of her relatives. A special team has been formed to observe Sooraj.

The case will be investigated by a team led by rural district crime branch DySP A Ashokan. Rural SP Harishankar will monitor the probe. Uthara was found dead in her bedroom on May 7. She was twice bitten by the snake in a month.

The case was handed over to the district crime branch after a complaint was lodged by her parents suspecting the role of Sooraj in her death and he in his complaint alleged the role of her brother.

Her relatives told the investigating team that Sooraj has connections with snake catchers and he used to play with snakes by holding it in his hands. Days before she was bit by the snake at her husband’s house in Adoor, a snake was found in the house. It was Uthara who found the snake. Her relatives said Uthara told them that Sooraj took that snake in his hands and then put it in a sack. The team will be examining whether the death of snake bite is a planned one.

The investigating team is waiting for the post-mortem report. The incidents revealed by her parents are taken seriously and a probe closing all loopholes will be conducted, informed rural SP Harishankar.
