KOZHIKODE: Kerala on Sunday registered its fifth COVID-19 death after a 53-year-old woman passed away in Kozhikode. The deceased has been identified as Amina, a native of Kalpetta. She was a cancer patient and was also suffering from kidney ailments.

Amina, who had recently returned from Dubai, was undergoing treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. According to sources, Amina was initially admitted to a private hospital soon after she returned from Dubai. Upon showing COVID-19 symptoms, her samples were sent for tests and she was later transferred to the Medical College soon after her tests returned positive.

However, her health condition deteriorated as cancer had spread to various parts of the body. The coronavirus infection made things complicated and eventually led to her death.

Meanwhile, authorities have begun procedures to find out the source of her infection. People who have interacted closely with Amina have been kept under observation.
