Accused jumps quarantine in Thiruvananthapuram, more containment zones announced

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two accused lodged in an institutional quarantine cell in Varkala have jumped from there. The two have been identified as Muhammed Shaan of Chithara and Aneesh of Neyyatinkara. The authorities said they jumped after damaging the ventilation of the room they were lodged.

Police said a search has been intensified for them. The incident is a serious cause of concern. The corporation has entrusted a special squad for night patrolling.

The capital city is on high alert following unknown sources of COVID-19 cases. Vellanad Town included in ward no 12 of Vellanad panchayat, Kannambally of ward 13, palayam market and its surrounding areas of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation have been announced containment zones.

The situation in Poonthura Beemappally areas is also serious. Saphalyam Complex and palayam markets were containment zones earlier. The Ayyankaly Hall and the surroundings of Jubilee Mission Hospital are the new containment zones. The corporation and the district administration have directed to be vigilant in these areas.
