covid

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala on Friday reported its highest single-day spike of 416 COVID-19 cases. What is even more alarming is the rise in the number of cases through local transmission. Among the newly infected persons, 204 persons contracted the disease through contact, while 123 foreign returnees tested positive for the virus. 51 persons who had returned from other states also tested positive on Friday. While the COVID-19 transmission rate was 0.93 percent on June 9, the rate has jumped to 6.16 percent on June 30. At present, the COVID-19 transmission in the state is 20.64 percent.

It must be noted that this is the first time that the state has reported more than 400 COVID-19 cases within a span of 24 hours. Meanwhile, 112 patients tested negative for the virus on Friday.
