Guidelines for Covid treatment in private hospital issued; Those who are not member of Karunya scheme will have to pay out of their own pocket

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala government has issued guidelines for Covid treatment in private hospitals. Those who are not a member of the Karunya scheme and those who are not covered under any other health insurance will have pay out of their own pocket.

The patients referred by government hospitals can avail themselves of free treatment in listed hospitals. Those who have Covid Kavach and Covid Raksha Insurance can also get free treatment from these hospitals.

The government meanwhile underscores that Covid patients should not be denied treatment in private hospitals.

According to the guidelines issued by State Health Agency for the implementation of Karunya Health Suraksha scheme, there should be universality in the charges for treatment in all private hospitals that offer Covid treatment.

In recognised private hospitals selected by the government for Covid treatment, lab tests should be conducted at government rates as mentioned below.


General Ward: Rs 2300
ICU – Rs 6500
For using ventilator facility- Rs 11,500
Besides the above the charge of PPE kit will have to be paid.
RT-PCR Open –Rs 2750
Antigen Test - Rs 635
Exportnat – Rs 3000
Truenat (Step1)- Rs 1500

SHA will completely bear the treatment cost of patients who are Karunya health scheme members. And the treatment cost of patients who are not under the scheme but referred by government hospitals will be borne by the Kerala government.
