14 inmates of Kollam district jail test positive for COVID-19

KOLLAM: 14 remanded accused in district jail here tested positive for COVID-19. A test conducted in 15 persons who had fever gave returned with 14 positive results for the virus. Following this, 139 prisoners and 45 employees were placed under observation in jail. Their swab samples were sent for testing. The district medical officer said that all 14 who tested positive will be given treatment in a first line treatment centre set up inside the jail. A special team including doctors will be assigned here,

A Thiruvananthapuram native jail employee tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. It is assumed that the accused got infected by this person. As a precautionary measure, all prisoners and employees in the jail will be subjected to antigen tests, the health department informed.
