KOCHI: Mystery has been alleged in the appointment of C Aji, a KSRTC driver who gave statement that violinist Balabhaskar’s death was an accident, at the UAE Consulate. Aji is now the driver of UAE Consulate. The police decided to close the case following the statement of Aji that Balabhaskar’s death was an accident. Journalist Arun Kumar seeking justice in the case demanded a probe on his appointment as a driver of UAE Government.

‘This bus was behind Balabhaskar’s car. Balu’s was an accidental death.’ This was Aji’s statement. The crime branch had found that it was not Balabhaskar who was in the driver’s seat at the time of the accident. Dr Faizal of medical college who first treated the violinist upheld his statement.

One of the main mysteries behind the accident that led to his death was who drove the car. The violinist’s driver Arjun had given the statement that it was Balabhaskar who drove the car. However, the crime branch and the police found that it was Arjun who drove the car and the violinist was sleeping at the time of the accident.

Balabhaskar’s family had alleged that the accused in the gold smuggling case have a role in his death. Balabhaskar’s friends, accused in the gold smuggling case, 25 are still on the run. Although COFEPOSA was charged against eight people, all except two, were released and steps are being taken to declare them as fugitives.

In the meantime, driver Ajrun had approached the court demanding one crore as compensation. His plea argued that it was Balabhaskar who drove the car at the time of the accident.

The CBI had taken over Balabhaskar’s death a few days back. The CBI will investigate all allegations related to the gold smuggling. The DRI had found that 700 kilos of gold were smuggled to Kerala. This was the biggest gold haul in Kerala before the UAE Consulate gold smuggling. Nine including customs superintendent and Balabhaskar’s two friends were arrested then.
