Kerala records 1083 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, 902 cases through contact; 1021 recoveries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has confirmed 962 new coronavirus positive cases on Tuesday, Health Minister KK Shailaja said. Among the new cases, 902 persons developed the disease through contact including 71 cases without an identified source of infection. 51 persons had returned from abroad, while 64 had returned from other states. 16 health workers and 35 ITBP personnel developed the disease in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile. 1021 patients tested negative for the virus on Tuesday, the minister added. As many as 11,540 people are presently under treatment and 16,303 have recovered from the pandemic.

Thiruvananthapuram- 242
Ernakulam- 135
Malappuram- 131
Alappuzha- 126
Kozhikode- 97
Kasaragod- 91

Thrissur- 72
Palakkad- 50
Kannur- 37
Pathanamthitta- 32
Kollam- 30
Kottayam- 23
Wayanad- 17

The death toll has climbed to 87 with three more fatalities.

In the last 24 hours, 20,087 samples have been sent for examination and so far 8,58,960 samples have been sent. Results of 7595 specimens are awaited.

At present, there are 509 hotspots in the state.
