Final year university exams should be completed by Sept 30: SC approves UGC directive

sc

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has approved the UGC directive to complete final year university exams by September 30. The court was convinced by UGC’s explanation that students’ future would be in peril if the exams are not completed on time. The union home ministry, which supported UGC’s directive, also informed the apex court that colleges could be opened to conduct exams. The court gave the nod to conduct exams after considering the home ministry’s view.

However, the Supreme Court also said that the states where Covid-19 situation is worse could communicate the same with the UGC before conducting the exams. State governments could take decisions after considering the situation. The Supreme Court’s verdict comes on an appeal submitted by 31 students seeking postponement of exams due to Covid -19.
