THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CBI has started collecting details of alleged corruption in connection with the Life Mission project at Wadakkanchery. It is learnt that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has handed over various documents provided by the state government to the CBI. Earlier, Kerala Kaumudi had reported that the CBI is likely to take over the investigation.

As per the notification issued by the Union Home Ministry on October 27 2011, CBI has the right to investigate fraud cases that involve foreign financial aid of more than Rs 1 crore. Sources said that the Ministry of External Affairs might request the UAE to cooperate with the investigation. It must be noted that the UAE had announced that it will cooperate with Customs investigation in connection with the gold smuggling case.

Earlier, the opposition demanded a CBI probe alleging that there was corruption involved in the selection of contractor by the Red Crescent, an international humanitarian organisation, which had agreed to provide Rs 20 crore worth funds towards the Life Mission Projects.
