Man accused of sexually abusing Dalit teen in Idukki found dead inside jail cell

KATTAPPANA: Man accused of sexually abusing a Dalit teen was found hanging inside a jail cell. 24-year-old Manu Manoj, who was arrested after a complaint from the girl's father, was jailed at the Muttom district jail.

The 16-year-old girl's parents lodged a petition regarding the abuse to the police on October 23. Manu, who is also a DYFI worker, went to exile following this. However, he surrendered to the police after the girl attempted suicide by setting herself on fire. The girl died on October 31 after suffering major burns.
