PALAKKAD: New probe team appointed for Palathayi sexual assault case. The current probe panel under IG S Sreejith has been dismissed for appointing the new probe team. The move to replace the current probe team comes after the victims family filed a complaint against IG Sreejith. Thaliparambu DYSP Ratnakumar is the new probe office and the investigation will be supervised by ADGP Jayaraj.

The leaked audio records of calls between IG Sreejith and accused in the case Padmarajan has earlier stirred off a controversy. The audio leaked following Padmarajan received bail on the case. The victim’s mother has handed over the audio clip to the high court. The conversation between the duo justified the move not to charge Palathayi case under POCSO act.

The high court has earlier issued the verdict to change the probe team over the plea filed by the victim’s mother, who said that she has lost faith in the probe team led by IG Sreejith and police is trying to sabotage the case. The high court has also asked the government not to appoint anyone from the old probe panel in the new team. BJP leader and teacher, Padmarajan has allegedly sexually assaulted a nine-year-old girl near Palathayi in Kannur district. The accused has also received bail in the case.
