THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan expresses displeasure over the measures taken by Finance Minister Thomas Issac over the CAG report on KIIFB. Speaker had shown his dissent over finance minister dragging the assembly into unnecessary controversies.
Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan currently out of the state as he had gone to participate in speaker’s conference and he will only come back to the state by next week. Therefore finance minister might have to wait for another week if he wants to see the speaker.
As of now, there are strong possibilities for the privilege committee to take up the issue of sending a breach of privilege notice to finance minister on oppositions’ demand. A final decision will be taken only on the basis of the finance minister’s justification.
Until placed before the assembly, the confidential nature of the CAG report should be kept intact and the finance minister is liable to do that. However, the finance minister himself revealed the content of the report through the media. Even though he claimed initially that it is a draft report, at last, he had to concede that it is the final report. Therefore naturally it comes under breach of privilege.
