m-sivasankar

KOCHI: The customs Tuesday registered a case against M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to the chief minister, in the gold smuggling case. The customs team reached Ernakulam district jail and arrested him. The court had yesterday granted permission to register his arrest but it was postponed to today due to technical reasons. The customs had told the court that they have obtained evidence on his role in the case.

Meantime, the court in Kochi handling economic offences will consider customs plea seeking the custody of Swapna Suresh and Sarith in the case of smuggling dollar abroad. The court had directed to produce them via video conference.

The customs also informed the court that UAE Consulate General and the attache had smuggled dollar abroad. The two had smuggled dollar many times, customs told the court.
