KOCHI: High court seeks state government’s justification in police act amendment. The court has directed the government to file justification within two weeks. Meanwhile, the government informed the court that it has decided to withdraw the amendments. The government has also informed that it won’t take subsequent measures over the amendment.
BJP state chief K Surendran and RSP leader and MP N K Premachandran have earlier approached the court seeking to quash the police act amendments. Rampant protest and condemn has risen in the state against the police act amendments. Opposition parties and CPM central leadership has openly rejected the legislation. This made the government in a defenceless state, following which chief minister through a press note informed the public that the government is repealing the act.
