Big sharks mentioned in defendants’ statement: Misuse of power shocks conscience, says court

KOCHI: The Economic Offences Court showered harsh criticisms in the gold smuggling case. The court said the statements of the accused contain references of big sharks. Misuse of power shocks the conscience. The court justified indicting M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to the chief minister, in the case.

The court also decided to monitor the progress of the customs investigation in the case. The investigation report should be submitted to the court every three months. The court's order came on a plea filed by Swapna seeking action on the leaked audio clip.

The court ruled that the progress of the investigation should be reported every three months. The court demanded action against the official responsible for the leaked audio. The court also asked the customs commissioner to inform in a sealed cover what action has been taken in this regard.

The court also observed that a supervisory process is required for things to proceed fairly. The court settled the plea soon after criticising for not providing accurate information on the issue related to Sivasankar. Meanwhile, the court accepted the demand seeking Sivasankar’s custody. The court sent him to custody till the 7th.
