Man beaten to death by nephew; youth arrested

KOLLAM: A man was beaten to death by his nephew at Nedumankavu in Kollam district after the two got involved in a fight. The deceased has been identified as Vakkanadu native Sivakumar (48) who was attacked by his nephew Nidheesh. Nidheesh was later arrested by the police.

The incident occurred around 10 pm on Monday near Sivakumar's house. According to sources, both Sivakumar and Nidheesh got involved in an argument by around 8.30 pm at the nearby junction. Later, Nidheesh attacked Sivakumar while the latter was returning to his house. As the two men began to fight, Nidheesh's mother reached the area and tried to stop the fight. However, Sivakumar went on to attack her with a knife which resulted in a minor wound on her arm. Following this, Sivakumar was continuously beaten by Nidheesh until he fell unconscious on the road. It was the police that rushed Sivakumar to the hospital, but he soon succumbed to his injuries.

Sivakumar was a tipper lorry driver. His body has been shifted to the Medical College hospital for post mortem. Nidheesh was presented before the court and remanded. Sivakumar is survived by wife Athira, children Ambadi, Adithyan and Adwaith.
