THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state confirmed 6394 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, Health Minister KK Shailaja said. Among these, 5723 persons developed the disease through contact including 551 cases without an identified source of infection. 69 persons who came from outside the state also tested positive for the virus. 51 health workers tested positive for the virus on Tuesday. Two persons who recently returned from the UK tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. So far, 43 cases from the UK has been confirmed in the state. Of this, the genetically mutated virus was found in six cases.
Meanwhile, 5110 patients tested negative for the virus today. As of now, there are 65,057 active cases in the state.
The state confirmed 25 deaths due to the virus on Wednesday with the toll rising to 3209.

With the addition of two new regions and the removal of one, there are 446 hotspots in the state.
