KOZHIKODE: Major irregularities have been detected in the CBI raid at the customs hall of the Karipur Airport. The raid which started yesterday early morning ended this morning. An amount of Rs 3.5 lakh was seized from customs officials.
The CBI seized 650 grams of gold from customs duty office. 750 grams of gold were seized from passengers who came out after customs examination. The CBI left them after seizing their passports. Foreign cigarette boxes were also seized.
The raid was conducted by a four-member team of CBI from Kochi with the help of DRI group from Kozhikode. The raid was carried out on the complaint that customs have links with smuggling team following an increase in gold smuggling in Karipur. The team arrived when Air Arabia’s Sharjah flight reached early morning.
