State again goes under the grip of bird flu; new case reported in Alappuzha, alert issued

ALAPPUZHA: Again bird flu case reported in Alappuzha. The new case was reported in Kainakary. In the tests conducted in the high-security Animal Diseases Library at Bhopal, it was confirmed that about 500 ducks from Kainakary died due to bird flu. As birds died on a mass scale in this region, the samples collected from this region were sent to the lab for testing.

“With the confirmation of the disease, in Kainakary alone 700 ducks and 1,600 hens need to be culled,” says animal husbandry department. The activities in this regard will commence soon. Authorities have issued alert messages in Kainakary and nearby areas.

Bird flu cases were reported in Neendur region in Kottayam and Kuttanad region in Alappuzha district. Following the confirmation of the disease, thousands of birds were culled in this region. The new strain of the flu was confirmed in Kainakary when the state was grappling under the fear of the earlier onslaught of Bird Flu. Bird flu was another blow upon the poultry farmers, who were reeling under the financial strain caused by the Covid 19 pandemic.
