NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court ordered re-determination of self-financing medical fees. The Supreme Court directed the fee regulation committee on it. The fees should be redetermined within the stipulated time. The court also informed that self-financing managements should cooperate with the committee. The high court had earlier ruled that self-financing medical fees should be reconsidered. The government had approached the Supreme Court against the verdict in favour of the management. The fee fixed by the fee regulation committee is up to Rs 6 lakhs. However, the managements wanted to increase it to Rs 17 lakh.

The government approached the apex court demanding that the managements should implement the decision of the fee regulation committee. A bench headed by Justice L Nageshwar Rao directed to redetermine the fees. The fees fixed by the committee earlier were between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh during 2016-2020. The management had approached the high court seeking to increase this from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 17 lakh. The high court ordered to re-examine the fees in favour of them. The government approached the Supreme Court against this. The Supreme Court order will affect 12,000 children.
