Police stop toll collection at Kollam bypass, will not permit to operate without govt’s permission

KOLLAM: The police Friday stopped the toll collection at Kollam bypass. The police informed the toll company that collection would not be allowed without the permission of the government. The company had decided to collect toll on Kollam bypass from 8 am today. However, the company had not informed Kollam district administration in writing. Instead, the district administration was informed through a WhatsApp message that the collection would start from today.

The company officials said they have received permission from the centre. However, disagreement from the state government still persists. The state had earlier written to the National Highways Authority asking to waive toll collection. Public Works Minister G Sudhakaran had sent the letter. The company decided to start toll collection without considering this letter. Following that, the police stopped the collection.
