NEW DELHI: A new video of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who has been awarded a Vir Chakra for shooting down a PAF F-16, has been released by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media and public relations wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

This heavily edited video has 16 cuts in which the pilot can be seen talking about peace between the two countries.

“I find the Pakistani Army a very fine professional force and very chivalrous. I am very impressed by the chivalry which has been displayed by the Pakistani Army,” Pakistan’s Capital TV quoted Abhinandan as saying.

‘Demonstrated Pak's responsible behaviour by returning the Indian pilot’

In response to the IAF’s pre-emptive airstrike in Balakot, Pakistan retaliated and conducted a daytime strike inside Kashmir on February 27 which was thwarted by the alert IAF.

A dogfight between Indian and Pakistani fighter jets during this airstrike resulted in the downing of an Indian MiG-21 Bison fighter jet flown by Abhinandan. Before being shot, the Wing Commander had brought down a PAF F-16.

Later, Varthaman was taken prisoner by the Pakistani military before being returned to India on March 1 which according to Prime Minister Imran Khan was a “goodwill gesture”.

'General Bajwa was sweating, legs shaking uncontrollably'

Earlier today, Imran Khan once again raked up the Kashmir issue again and also mentioned Abhinandan Varthaman in his tweet.

“We also demonstrated to the world Pakistan's responsible behaviour in the face of India's irresponsible military brinkmanship, by returning the captured Indian pilot. We have always stood for peace & remain ready to move forward to resolve all outstanding issues through dialogue,” he said in another tweet.

Last year in October, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Sardar Ayaz Sadiq claimed that Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had said during a meeting in February 2019 that if Abhinandan was not released then India would attack Pakistan by 9 pm that night.

Describing the atmosphere in the meeting that was attended by Qureshi, Sadiq said that Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa's legs were shaking and he was 'sweating' profusely.
