PUTHUPALLY: Oommen Chandy has again projected the Sabarimala issue during the election day. “The left front government has proved that it will go to any extent using illegal and unconstitutional measures. The elections in Kerala will become a strength and infuse a new sense of enthusiasm across party lines,” he said. Oommen Chandy who asked who will believe Pinarayi’s words after casting votes. The government was forced to take a U-turn in the election fearing the people.
He said that Pinarayi is still not ready to withdraw the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court supporting women’s entry to Sabarimala. Oommen Chandy also alleged that this government has rejected the plea of Congress before the Supreme Court to protect the customs. He also added that this government took the initiative to take women to the shrine under the security of high ranking police officers. “Even after creating a women’s wall in support of women’s entry to Sabarimala, in the name of the renaissance, Pinarayi’s U-turn on this election day is astonishing,” he said.
“NSS has always taken a firm stand on Sabarimala, the chief minister who has opposed this earlier has now changed his stand after realising that people will avenge him in the elections,” he said. He also questioned Pinarayi’s statement that the celestial gods are with him. He asked, “If the celestial gods were standing with him today, Where they had been until yesterday?”
“For Keralites, Sabarimala is a feeling which stands across caste and religious considerations. Why did the chief minister correct Kadakampally when he apologised to the people? We will do whatever necessary to protect the Sabarimala shrine,” he said. He also added that the party was not at all concerned about the surveys as they had the firm conviction that UDF will win the polls. The former chief minister had come to cast his votes along with his family.
