NEW DELHI: The hearing in the SNC-Lavalin graft case has been adjourned by the Supreme Court for two weeks. A bench comprising Justices UU Lalit and Indira Banerjee while considering a batch of special leave petitions adjourned the hearing based on a letter circulated by one of the petitioners-- former power department joint secretary A Francis, who was acquitted in the SNC Lavalin case.
The apex court is hearing appeals filed by the CBI against the acquittal of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other accused, and the appeals filed by Kasturiranga Iyer and R Sivadasan Nair against the verdict directing them to face trial, and the petition by Congress leader VM Sudheeran. It was postponed several times as the CBI asked for more time. Earlier, Justice UU Lalit had said the court would intervene only if there was strong evidence in a case where the trial court and the high court have made the same decision.
