NEW DELHI: The family of Siddique Kappan, a journalist jailed in Uttar Pradesh on charges of UAPA, has alleged he is not receiving proper treatment. The family alleged that Kappan, who has contracted Covid, is tied to the bed. They have approached the Supreme Court seeking proper treatment and removal from the current hospital.
"Kappan's health is deteriorating. He is tied to the bed with chains. He is not even allowed to go to the toilet. A bottle was provided for urination. Prison officials say he is receiving good care". The family told the media that Kappan told them all this when he called home.
Kappan's advocate told his family yesterday that he tested positive for Covid. The KUWJ Delhi unit had submitted a letter to the Uttar Pradesh government expressing concern over the health condition of Kappan, who is lodged in the Mathura jail hospital. The letter also said that Kappan, who is suffering from health problems including diabetes, should be shifted to Delhi for specialist treatment. At present, Kappan has been shifted from Mathura Jail to a hospital in Uttar Pradesh.
