KOZHIKODE: In the wake of an unprecedented rise in Covid-19 cases in the state, restrictions are being tightened in Kozhikode. Vehicles plying without valid reasons will be impounded. Only five people can attend functions including marriages. A case will be registered against those violating restrictions. Shops will be opened from 7 am to 7 pm.

Kozhikode reported the highest number of Covid cases in the state yesterday. The disease was confirmed on 3767 people. In 28 panchayats of the district, the test positivity rate was above 25 %. With this, the restrictions have been tightened.

The situation continues to be critical in Ernakulam. Only 1,146 Covid beds remain in the district. Authorities said there is not enough vaccine stock for today's distribution. In four days, 19,436 people were diagnosed with the disease. The authorities said weekend restrictions will be tightened today.

Meantime, lockdown like curbs have been imposed in the state today also. Only shops selling essential items have been allowed to open. KSRTC will operate 60% of services. An all-party meet will be convened tomorrow to discuss about further restrictions and vaccine shortage.
