Critical state of affairs in Kerala; transmission of mutated strain of virus above 75%

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health experts opine that the transmission of the mutated strain of the virus has crossed over 75 per cent in Kerala. The experts’ panel which conducted the study said if necessary measures are not taken immediately, then the situation could become similar to New Delhi.

The genetically mutated strains of the virus which spread quickly has been reported from 13 districts of Kerala. When the study report made in the first week of April came out, it concluded that the mutated strain of the virus was found in 40 per cent of the population. But, as of now, it could cross 75 per cent.

Presently three kinds of Covid 19 viruses are found in the state—Coronavirus B1 617, which lashed across the state of Maharashtra, the UK variant and the South African variant.
