THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president K Surendran has said that the covid prevention in the state has got destabilised. “Even after understanding that a new mutant strain was found earlier this month, no action was taken to reduce its spread. Despite after getting reports that the mutated strain of the virus could be witnessed in 10 districts of Kerala the government has not done anything,” Surendran said.

“In almost every part of the state, test positivity is more than 25 per cent. The government is not giving atleast vitamin tablets to the public for Covid 19 prevention. No ambulance facility is available for the Covid patients in the state. Even the cost of PPE kits are levied from those who demand an ambulance,” Surendran alleged.

“The government is not helping the local government institutions. The government has not taken any step to isolate covid 19 patients, which has enhanced the pandemic’s transmission. The 10-day delay caused by RT PCR tests is also contributing to the further spread of the pandemic. The death of an old woman in an ambulance, with out getting the proper care for four days happened due to severe lapses on the government’s part,” Surendran said.

“The government doesn’t even know how many hospitals are there in the state with oxygen and ventilator facilities. The state government is not spending enough money on the covid prevention activities. The government must tell the public how much amount of money was spent until now for Covid 19 prevention. Covid cannot be prevented with campaigns and advice. The state government is silent over the Rs 20,000 crore worth package declared by finance minister Thomas Issac. The government must inform when the covid vaccine will be available to the state,” he added.

“The government has hatched a new plan to rob the people along with the private hospitals. The people of the state are compelled to spend Rs 1,700 for RT-PCR tests. The government is charging three times for RT-PCR tests when compared to the rates in other states. The oxygen plants to be set up by the state government for which the centre has allotted special funds must be completed as soon as possible,” Surendran added.
