Man attacks woman in Punalur Express; robs her, sustains serious injuries in fall from train

KOCHI: A man attacked a woman on Guruvayur-Punalur Express. He attacked the woman, a native of Mulanthuruthiy, robbed her jewellery after threatening her. The woman who sustained serious injuries after falling off the train has been admitted at the Ernakulam Medical Trust Hospital.

The incident happened in the passenger train at Olippuram near Kanjiramattom in Ernakulam. She boarded the train from Mulanthuruthy to go to her work place in Chengannur. Soon after the train passed Kanjiramatoom, he took a knife threatened her and asked her for the ornaments. She was alone in the compartment.

He then dragged her to the side of the toilet and as soon as the train left Mulanthuruthy station, he attacked her. The woman who tried to jump from the train, hung in the train and later lost her balance and fell down.

The railway security officers and others reached the hospital to record her statement. The woman has identified the accused, a native of Nooranad.
