THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the landslide victory of the left front in the assembly polls, it is expected that a new generation of leaders will come to the forefront of Congress leadership. Sources say that V D Satheesan may get appointed as the opposition leader. Way back in 2016, when Congress lost the assembly polls, Oommen Chandy has also withdrawn himself from taking up the post of opposition leader. If Ramesh Chennithala also follows the footsteps of Oommen Chandy, then V D Satheesan who is coming to the assembly for the fourth consecutive time might get appointed to the post of opposition leader. It is expected that with Chennithala’s exit, Satheesan may also get his support.
Multiple circles within the party allege that Chennithala’s presence has not strengthened the party’s leadership. With this, V D Satheesan who won from a left dominated constituency with 21,031 votes despite a pro-left wave lashing across the state has a greater chance to get appointed to the post. As of now, 22 persons will reach the assembly from the Congress party. Among them, Satheeshan is the next senior person after Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and P T Thomas. Satheesan has also worked as the vice president of KPCC.
