Man commits suicide by grabbing electric line after escaping police custody

KOCHI: An accused who was taken into police custody in a ganja case committed suicide by grabbing a power line near Ernakulam KSRTC bus stand. The deceased was identified as Ranjith, a native of Palakkad.

The incident took place near the Ambedkar Stadium when Ranjith with four kilos of ganja was taken into custody for questioning. Ranjith managed to escape out of the hands of the police and jumped down the steps inside the Ambedkar Stadium. Eyewitnesses said the man tried to get on an electric post and laid down on electric line. The body was transferred to the General Hospital Mortuary.
