THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: MD Biju Prabhakar has said that KSRTC would continue long-distance and night services as public transport was declared an essential service despite the tightening of restrictions in the context of the COVID crisis. The rumors that long-distance night services are being discontinued due to loss of revenue are baseless. About 50 percent of services, including ordinary services, will continue. The service will be extended from May 15 once the restrictions are lifted. Services have been running for the past two Sundays for health workers and patients to get to the hospitals.
The daytime service will run from May 15. The 12-hour shift was temporarily implemented in consultation with the employees' organizations to provide more service from 7 to 11 in the morning and from 3 to 7 in the evening. This is to give employees from far away more rest after 4 days of duty.
