80 doctors at Delhi’s Saroj Hospital test Covid positive, senior surgeon dies

NEW DELHI: 80 doctors of Delhi’s Saroj Hospital have tested Covid positive so far even as the hospital continues to treat patients. A senior surgeon who worked at the facility for nearly three decades has succumbed to the disease.

Of the 80 doctors who have been diagnosed with Covid-19, 12 are now admitted to the hospital for treatment while the rest of the doctors who are Covid positive are in home quarantine.

Dr AK Rawat, a senior surgeon at the hospital, has succumbed to Covid-19. Dr A K Rawat had served the Saroj Hospital for 27 years and his death dealt a severe blow to the already strained staff.

The report further states that over 300 doctors and paramedic staff across Delhi hospitals have tested positive for Covid so far.

With the Covid outbreak at Saroj Hospital, all out-patient departments (OPDs) have been closed for now.

On Sunday, a young doctor at the Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Delhi, succumbed to Covid-19-related complications within hours of testing positive for the infection.

Dr Anas Mujahid, 26, was working at the GTB Hospital which was converted into a designated Covid-19 hospital. He had completed his internship after MBBS in January.
