Famous screenwriter and director Dennis Joseph passes away

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Famous screenwriter and director Dennis Joseph has passed away. He died at a private hospital in Kottayam following a heart attack. He is the creator of all time great hits in Malayalam cinema. He is the maker of megahits like Rajavinte Makan, Nirakoottu, New Delhi, Manu Uncle, Akashadoothu, Palayam, East Peter, Mahanagaram, FIR, Kottayam Kunjachan, No. 20 Madras Mail, Nairsab, Indrajalam. Dennis has directed movies like Manu Uncle, Atharvam, Appu, Thdarkkadha and Agrajan.

Dennis Joseph was born on October 20, 1957 in Ettumanoor in Kottayam as the son of MN Joseph and Eliyamma Joseph. He was educated at Ettumanoor Government High School and Devamatha College, Kuravilangad. Dennis Joseph made his screenwriting debut in 1985 with Eeran Sandhya, directed by Jeassy. In the same year, Dennis Joseph and Joshiy's Mammootty starrer Nirakkoottu became a super hit. Since then, the Joshiy-Dennis Joseph duo has produced many super hits. Dennis has played a major role in cementing Mammootty's superstar status. Dennis Joseph also wrote the screenplay for the movie Rajavinte Makan, starring Mohanlal which gave him stardom. Dennis Joseph made his directorial debut with Mammootty starrer Manu Uncle. His last film was Mohanlal-Priyadarshan's Gitanjali which was released in 2013.
