Kerala bids farewell to revolutionary leader; Gouri Amma laid to rest with state honours

ALAPPUZHA: The funeral of firebrand communist icon KR Gouri Amma was held with state honours at Valiya Chudukad in Alappuzha on Tuesday evening.

The body was brought to Alappuzha from Thiruvananthapuram at 2.30 pm and was laid at her residence and later at the SDV school for public homage. Despite COVID restrictions, several people came to see their beloved leader for the last time. Gouri Amma was laid to rest next to her ex-husband TV Thomas.

Several prominent personalities including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and ministers paid last respects to Gouri Amma while the body was kept at the Ayyankalihall in Thiruvananthapuram. The public homage and funeral took place as per COVID protocol.
