Appointment of Teachers in Universities: Reservation Amendment Act passed by Assembly also becomes invalid

high-court

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The single bench of the high court has also quashed the amendment law passed by the government in the Assembly in 2014 to make appointments in compliance with the principle of reservation by considering the teacher vacancies in similar posts in various departments in the universities of the state as a single unit.

The action came soon after the court cancelled the notification issued by Kerala University on November 27, 2017, for the appointment of teachers due to inaccuracy in the reservation. Last day, Kerala Kaumudi had reported that the future of the teaching appointments made by Kannur, MG, Calicut, Kalady, and NUALS universities since 2014 under this Act had become uncertain. Not only will these appointments be revoked, but the pre-2014 criteria for teacher appointments will be reinstated. It could also lead to widespread reservation coups.
