Youth, who jumped into lake after seeing police, drowns to death

KOLLAM: In a tragic incident, a youth who jumped into the lake after seeing the police drowned to death. The deceased has been identified as Kadavoor native Praveen (45).

The incident took place near the Neeravil bridge at around 2.30 pm on Tuesday. According to sources, four youngsters, including Praveen, were fishing in the lake when the police reached the area. Upon seeing the police jeep, they jumped into the lake and began to swim to the other side. Following this, the police team returned. While three of the youngsters managed to swim to the other side of the lake, Praveen drowned midway.

Though Praveen was rescued and rushed to the nearby hospital, doctors were unable to save his life. The body is currently kept at the mortuary of the District Hospital. It will be handed over to his family after conducting postmortem. Praveen was a football coach.
