Rains continue in state, red alert withdrawn in southern districts, orange alert from Alappuzha to Wayanad

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The rains that started in the southern districts last night continue today also. In Thiruvananthapuram, Karamana and Killi rivers are overflowing. Families have been evacuated from areas including Kalady. There is a warning in the state that low pressure will intensify today.

Meanwhile, red alert has been withdrawn and yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram. Red Alert has been withdrawn in Kollam and Pathanamthitta as well. Orange alert has been announced in districts from Alappuzha to Wayanad.

The winds will blow at a speed of 60-70 kmph. The waves can reach up to one meter on the shore. There are sea ravages in Kollam, Alappad and Paravur areas. Six ships have been docked at Kollam port following cyclone threat.

Houses have been flooded in many low-lying areas of Kollam in the heavy rains that have been lashing since last night. Five families were evacuated from Thrikkovilvattam. 356 relief camps have been set up. A team of NDRF is also camping in Kollam.

There are about 500 relief camps in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. The camps function adhering to Covid norms. Patients and others are in two places. The Disaster Management Authority has warned that special care should be taken not to disrupt communication due to lockdown.
